Camo Carries the Day for Team Speedway in Arthritis Foundation Grand Prix
A camouflage-clad Team Kentucky Speedway scored big style points while posting respectable heat and feature race performances during the 20th Annual Arthritis Foundation Mini Grand Prix.
The fund-raising event featured teams fielded by major corporations, small businesses and civic organizations from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana racing mini Indy cars through a road course that traversed the speedway garage area.
A veteran crew comprised of captain Karen Bannick, Mike Claywell, Mark Knapp, Pam Mylor, Jessica Pelfrey and Charles Williams picked up first place honors for the best dressed team, best decorated garage and best car paint scheme.
Team Speedway earned its grand-prix-best fifth-place finish in the third of three heat races before wheeling to a respectable eighth-place showing in the feature race.
"Image really is everything and we certainly proved it," Bannick said. "We would've liked to have made a stronger showing on the track, but 99 percent of feeling good is looking good, so we came away very happy. You can bet we'll be back to defend our titles in 2009."
