Kentucky Speedway announced today that decorated United States Army Master Sergeant Stephen R. Carnahan will serve as grand marshal of "The Kroger 225" NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday, July 13.

"We are both proud and honored that Master Sergeant Carnahan will represent the U.S. Armed Forces during our All-American race weekend," Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. "His exemplary record achieved through 17 years of military service is truly shining example of the great men and women who are currently serving our country during this challenging time."

Master Sergeant Carnahan has served the United States for more than 17 years and is currently assigned to 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he has served as an infantry platoon sergeant in Company C, and scout platoon sergeant in Headquarters Company. While serving with the Rakkasans, his most recent achievements include missions in support of Operation Joint Guardian, Kosovo, and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, where he participated in both Operations Anaconda and Mountain Lion.

He additionally served as infantry rifleman through squad leader while assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 75th Infantry, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. This was followed by an assignment as squad leader with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Lewis, Wash., where he participated in Operation Just Cause in Panama. Later he served as the assistant team sergeant and team sergeant of Team Two, Regimental Reconnaissance Detachment, 75th Ranger Regiment in Fort Benning, Ga. Next he served with the Artic Warriors at both Fort Greely and Fort Richardson, Alaska (AK).

Master Sergeant Carnahan's awards and decorations are numerous and include the Joint Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Medal - second award, Army Commendation Medal - third award, Army Achievement Medal - fourth award, Army Good Conduct Medal - fifth award, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Arrowhead among others.

In addition, Master Sergeant Carnahan has attended numerous military schools and courses that specialize in Ranger training, air assault, static line and freefall parachuting, assault climbing, combat diving, emergency medicine, fire support, long-range reconnaissance and surveillance, tactical waterborne operations, and several areas of instructional training.

Kentucky Speedway's All-American Weekend kicks off Friday, July 12, at 8:00 p.m., with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series qualifying on "The Cincinnati Enquirer and Post Pole Night" and "The Blue Grass Quality Meats 200" at 9:00 p.m. The green flag drops for "The Kroger 225" at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday's events include a pre-race concert by country music superstar Lee Greenwood, a special pre-race show honoring American heroes and a fireworks show.
