Green And Hamilton, Jr. Preview NASCAR Busch Series Event On "Meijer 300 Presented By Oreo" Media Day At Kentucky Speedway
NASCAR Busch Series drivers David Green and Bobby Hamilton, Jr., visited Kentucky Speedway today to preview the June 14 "Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" race and give media a first-hand look at the racing groove through the NASCAR Busch ride-along program.
"The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" is expected to attract 50 potential qualifiers for the second straight year. The 43 drivers who qualify in the field will compete for a track record purse of $1,247,798. The Kentucky winner's share of $84,750 ranks first among the 14 NASCAR Busch Series events completed this season.
Green, an Owensboro, Ky. native, drives the No. 37 Timber Wolf Pontiac for Kentucky-based Brewco Motorsports. The 1994 NASCAR Busch Series Champion enters the week third in the series points standings after posting one win, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes through 14 starts this season.
Green said he plans to maintain his momentum in his home state. "To be coming back here with a Kentucky-based team after spending most of last year on the outside looking in is icing on the cake for me, " Green said. "We've raced hard and gotten to Victory Lane once already this season. We'll try it again at Nashville this week and then here next week. I have a great team supporting me and a great sponsor. I'm like a kid in a candy store knowing I get to come and play in our own backyard. This (track) is the future of NASCAR and we hope to so everyone something on television here next week."
Hamilton, Jr., enters the week 10th in the series standings after taking a sixth-place finish this past weekend in Dover, Del., with new crew chief Harold Holly. Hamilton owns one top-five and six top-10 finishes through 14 starts this season.
"This is one of our best tracks to come to," Hamilton, Jr. said. "We made a crew chief change about three weeks ago and hired Harold Holly. His car about won here last year so we have something to look forward to. We've been a top-10 team off and on this season and that's why we made the change."
"The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" will be televised live on the FX Network and the green flag will drops at 8:00 p.m.
