The NASCAR Goody's Dash Series took to Kentucky Speedway's 1.5-mile tri-oval for its only "700 WLW 100" practice session of the weekend this afternoon after qualifying was rained out on Friday, June 14.

Defending Kentucky champion and current points leader Robert Huffman, pilot of the No. 37 White House Apple Juice Toyota, engineered the fastest lap of the session at 148.435 mph (36.255 sec.). That time is well off his 2001 pole-winning speed of 149.435 mph.

Huffman entered the week with a slim five-point lead in the point standings over second place Jacob Hobgood and held a 34-point advantage over the third-place Justin Hobgood. Jacob Hobgood was fifth-fastest during the session with a lap of 147.614 mph (36.582 sec.), while Justin Hobgood was sixth-fastest with a top lap of 147.344 mph (36.649 sec.).

Danny Bagwell, in the No. 10 Sterling Casino Lines Mercury, was second-fastest in the session with a fast lap of 148.929 mph (36.259 sec.) and Johnny Chapman, in the John Boy and Billy Grillin' Sauce Pontiac, rounded-out the top-three with a fast lap of 148.323 mph (36.407 sec.).

Huffman will start on the pole for "The 700 WLW 100" for the second consecutive year, as the 26-car field will be set by points.

"We really like the new surface," Huffman said. "It is a lot smoother, which makes for better racing and a lot more speed. To win this race you are going to have to run wide open at the very end. This is a place where you can really run down your right-side tires and get in a lot of trouble. What I'd like to do is stay in front the whole race, then we'll be just fine." The Goody's Dash Series owns the closest margin of victory in Kentucky Speedway history. Huffman nipped eventual 2001 series champion Cam Strader at the finish line by .024 seconds in 2001.
