Indy 500 Co-Rookie of the Year Alex Barron scorched the 1.5-mile tri-oval at Kentucky Speedway at speeds of 220.408 mph during a one-day test of his No. 44 Rayovac Blair Racing Dallara/Chevrolet powered by McLaren.

The test speed bests the fastest Indy Racing League MBNA Pole on record at Kentucky of 219.191 mph. Scott Goodyear set the mark in the No. 4 Pennzoil Panther Racing Dallara in 2000.

Barron arrived at Kentucky with momentum after finishing fourth in The Indy 500 this past Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Barron shared Indy 500 Rookie of the Year honors with Tomas Scheckter, who finished 26th. Barron moved from ninth to fifth in the Indy Racing League (IRL) point standings as a result of the performance.

"To jump from ninth to fifth at the Indy 500 is a really good deal for the team, there's a lot of confidence flowing and that goes a long way," the 32-year-old San Diego native said. "We are looking to improve our package and increase the speed of the car even more so than we have. We've been progressively doing that week-in and week-out, but we're still trying to find a little bit of speed."

The No. 44 Blair Racing machine also helped to form an Indy car groove on the newly-paved tri-oval. "The track is very, very nice, there's not a bump in it. It's still a little green because the ARCA cars run a different line than we do," Barron said. "We should be able to work in a second groove once the rest of the (IRL) cars get here." The Indy Racing League returns to Kentucky Speedway on Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11 for the third "Belterra Casino Indy 300."
