Kenseth Unveils the 2013 Ford Escape as the Official Pace Vehicle of Kentucky Speedway
Roush Fenway Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) driver Matt Kenseth presented the 2013 Ford Escape as the official pace vehicle of Kentucky Speedway's June 28-30 "Quaker State 400" tripleheader race weekend during a visit to the Ford Motor Co., Louisville Assembly Plant today.
Kenseth, who ranks second in this season's NSCS championship standings and just two points behind his leading teammate Greg Biffle following a sixth-place finish at Darlington Raceway on May 12, enjoyed a plant tour before unveiling two Kentucky Speedway themed Escapes.
"This is a great plant. It's the first time I've been here to see the modern and efficient lines. It's also the first time I've seen the 2013 Escape, it's a great vehicle," Kenseth said.
The 15-year NSCS veteran and 2003 series champion raced to a sixth-place finish in Kentucky Speedway's inaugural "Quaker State 400" last season. He opened this season by capturing his second career Daytona 500 title and has assembled a total of six top-five and seven top-10 finishes through 11 races this season.
"We were all really excited to get to Kentucky last year. It was long overdue to have a (NSCS) race. There's always been a great amount of fan support and interest in this track, even when it had stand-alone Nationwide and truck races. It was fun to bring the Cup cars here last year and experience the enthusiasm. We look forward to racing here for years to come.
"As for our team, we just need to improve by about five spots. We'll just look at the things we did well last time to improve on those and look at the things we did bad last time and improve on those as well," he added.
The "Quaker State 400" anchors Kentucky Speedway's season-opening weekend which begins Thursday, June 28 with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series "UNOH 225" and continues Friday, June 29 with the NASCAR Nationwide Series "Feed The Children 300."
