Kentucky Speedway and the Kenton County Public Library are challenging children to race to read this September during Library Card Sign Up Month.

Children in Kenton Co., Ky., will be encouraged to obtain a library card through the new Racing to Read program. Kentucky Speedway will provide two free tickets to its September 18 "Triple Header Fall Classic" to Kenton Co. students in grades K-12 who register for a new library card from September 1 through September 18. Tickets will be available while supplies last.

Students can visit Kenton Co. Public Library locations in Covington, Erlanger or Independence to register for a free library card. Children age 16 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who can show proof of county residency. Those older than age 16 can receive a library card by showing photo identification with a county address.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Kentucky Speedway on our library card promotion," Library Director Wayne Onkst said. "The speedway is one of the most recognized organizations in the region. Its collaboration with Racing to Read demonstrates a commitment to both the community and to literacy."

The Kenton Co. Public Library also will be giving away three gift baskets filled with items from Racing to Read, Graeter's Ice Cream and Kentucky Speedway. Basket items include sets of tickets to the "Triple Header Fall Classic." Entry forms will be available at library circulation desks from September 1 to September 16. Winning names will be drawn on September 17.

"We are honored to take part in the Racing to Read program," Kentucky Speedway Director of Communications Tim Bray said. "A library card can bring the world to your fingertips. Just like the up-and-coming drivers competing in our 'Triple Header Fall Classic,' the potential of the card is unlimited."
