Kentucky Speedway, Newport On The Levee And Indy Racing League To Present "Festival Of Speed"
Kentucky Speedway and The Indy Racing League will present "Festival of Speed" on Thursday, August 14 from noon to 10:00 p.m. at Newport on the Levee.
A one-hour autograph session with Indy Racing League IndyCar Series drivers Sarah Fisher, Scott Sharp, and Robbie Buhl will begin at 5:00 p.m. Following the session, Fisher and Sharp will drive Indy style cars through Newport, across the Taylor-Southgate Bridge and into Great American Ballpark where they will deliver the first pitch for the Cincinnati Reds game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The evening also will feature a 7:00 p.m. book signing with Indy Racing legend Johnny Rutherford at the Barnes & Noble location on the Levee. The Big Ham Blues Band will entertain on the IRL Live Stage from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Robin Lacy & Dezydeco will play on the Indy Racing Live stage between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
The four interactive properties of the Indy Racing League Fan Experience will be on display throughout the day beginning at noon. The experience features Indy Racing League Challenge race simulators, the Indy Racing League Pit Stop Challenge, an Indy Racing Kids activity area and the Indy Racing Live stage. All properties will be located in the parking areas on the East side of the entertainment complex.
Fisher, 22, became the first woman to win the pole position for a major-league North American open-wheel race last season at Kentucky Speedway. She pilots the No. 23 GMAC/AOL Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone entry for Dreyer and Reinbold Racing and has twice been voted the IndyCar Series "Most Popular Driver."
Buhl is Fisher's Dreyer & Reinbold teammate and pilots the No. 24 Purex/Aventis Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone machine. He enters the week 15th in the series standings after finishing 13th in Michigan on July 27.
Sharp, who owns two top-five finishes through three starts at Kentucky Speedway, scored his season-best finish with a win in Japan earlier this season and enters the week eighth in the series standings. He drives the No. 8 Delphi Dallara//Toyota/Firestone machine.
Rutherford, a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner, is currently promoting his autobiography titled Lone Star J.R., which relates recollections and anecdotes from his three-decade-long racing career.
The Indy Racing League IndyCar Series will provide a high-speed finale to the 2003 Kentucky Speedway race season when it contests "The Belterra Casino Indy 300" on Sunday, August 17 at 2:00 p.m. The race day also will feature a special pre-race concert by Sixpence None The Richer. The weekend begins Saturday, August 16, with "The Bull Country Radio Pole Day" featuring the IRL Infiniti Pro Series "Kentucky 100" and IRL IndyCar Series qualifying.
