Marlin Enters Kentucky Speedway Meijer 300 Presented By Oreo
Twenty-five year NASCAR veteran Sterling Marlin will pilot the No. 40 Ferris Industries entry for Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw and FitzBradshaw Racing in "The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" NASCAR Busch Series event at Kentucky Speedway on June 18.
The 48-year-old driver will battle fellow NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series regulars Rusty Wallace, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and Michael Waltrip in a 43-car field that will feature three of the top 10 drivers in the current NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series standings.
Marlin begins the week 23rd in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series standings and has driven to one top-five and two top-10 finishes through 13 starts this season. He ranks 25th in the NASCAR Busch Series standings after collecting two top-five and three top-10 finishes in 10 starts this season. He finished second in the NASCAR Busch Series event at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 28.
The 1995 and 1996 Daytona 500 champion made his 650th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series start earlier this season at Darlington Speedway on May 7. He finished a career-best third in the series standings twice, most recently in 2001 with his current No. 40 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team.
The NASCAR Busch Series has attracted an average crowd of 70,829 in its previous four appearances at the 66,089-seat facility. The event is tracking toward a fifth consecutive sellout at the speedway.
"Ticket sales recently crossed the 55,000 mark and sales are ahead of the pace of previous seasons due to the strength of our field," Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. "With Travis Tritt in concert, NFL Offensive Rookie-of-the-Year Ben Roethlisberger giving the command to start engines, and a host of NASCAR stars on the track, 'The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo' is on pace to be the largest spectator event in our region once again." The speedway will distribute the 70,000 Rusty Wallace rally towels to guests entering the facility on race day. The towels feature Wallace's signature and Top-Flite Racing logo.
Fans can enjoy a full day of activity at the track on June 18. The NASCAR Busch Series will hold two practice sessions beginning Saturday at 10:00 a.m., country artist Tritt will perform a two-hour concert beginning at 3:00 p.m., and Busch Series qualifying is set for 5:00 p.m. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and race Grand Marshal Roethlisberger will give drivers the command to start engines and the green flag will drop for "The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" at 8:00 p.m.
