Mercer Takes Second NASCAR Hills Bros. All Pro Series Pole Of Season At Kentucky
Eddie Mercer claimed the Bud Pole Award for Friday night's NASCAR Hills Bros All Pro Series Kentucky 150 Presented by The Lexington Herald- Leader at Kentucky Speedway.
Mercer (No. 27 Everwood/Phoenix/Quality Body Shop Chevrolet) claimed the pole with a lap in 34.707 seconds (155.588 mph). It's the second fastest pole in the three-race series history at Kentucky Speedway. It is the second consecutive pole of the season for Mercer, who enters the race 29th in the point standings.
"The car was pretty good. We gotta tighten it up to race. We can't run that loose," Mercer said. "We're not having luck this year. We've started three races this year, and haven't finished any of them. Maybe it comes in threes. I hope (the back luck) is gone."
Stanley Smith (No. 10 Express Oil Change/Smith Drywall Chevrolet) will start on the outside of Row One after a qualifying time of 34.773 seconds (155.293 mph). Cincinnati-native Jeff Fultz (No. 54 C&C Boilers/Cleaver Brooks Chevrolet), winner of both All Pro Series races at Kentucky Speedway in 2001, qualified third. Scott Carlson (No. 57 Advance Construction/Hamner Engines Pontiac) will start fourth and Ray Skillman (No. 71 Dupont/Kendall Oil Ford) starts fifth.
