A parade of 15 school busses carrying 775 Northern Kentucky elementary school children rolled into Kentucky Speedway today in celebration of the students' successful completion of the speedway RPM Reading Program.

The inaugural program launched in February and provided schools customized, speedway-themed Reading Program Manuals (RPMs) along with other materials to help motivate students to complete works on their respective schools recommended reading lists.

Students attending today's celebration represented Dry Ridge Elementary School, Gallatin Co., Upper Middle School and Holy Trinity Elementary School in Dayton, Ky. Children were treated to a tour of the 66,089-seat facility and a meeting with the official speedway mascot, "Horsepower." Planned Richard Petty Driving Experience stock car ride-a-longs for designated school representatives were reluctantly cancelled due to light rain showers.

"We were certainly excited to be able to reward these students with a unique field trip for a job well done," Kentucky Speedway Director of Human Resources and RPM Program coordinator Debby Shipp said. "We're very pleased with number of students who were able to participate in our program and look forward to the challenge of expanding our RPM enrollment next year."
