Rahal Letterman Racing rookie Danica Patrick and reining Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon established themselves as the favorites to win the pole award for "The AMBER Alert Portal Indy 300" after leading the afternoon and morning Indy Racing League IndyCar Series practice sessions at Kentucky Speedway.

Wheldon led the first practice by turning his best of 58 practice laps at 217.500 mph (24.4965 seconds) and Patrick bettered that mark by 0.016 of a second during the second session with a 217.516 mph lap (24.4947 seconds). Patrick drove 63 laps in the second session.

Qualifying for "The AMBER Alert Indy 300" is scheduled for later today at 4:30 p.m., following the IRL Menards Infiniti Pro Series "Bluegrass 100" race on "Louisville Courier-Journal Pole Day."
