Penske Racing's announced move to the Indy Racing League will bring two-time CART FedEX Champion Gil de Ferran and defending Indianapolis 500 Champion Helio Castroneves to Kentucky Speedway for "The Belterra Casino Indy 300" on Aug. 11, 2002.

"We are delighted about this news," Kentucky Speedway Exec. Vice President and General Manager Mark F. Cassis said. "Mr. Penske has visited our facility before when driver Ryan Newman won here in his ARCA stock car.

"Our decision to join the Indy Racing League two years ago has proven itself again as the right decision. We anticipate the league will to continue to grow with more events and add great open-wheel drivers such as Castroneves and de Ferran. 'The Belterra Casino Indy 300' in August just got a little bigger and we're excited," Cassis said.

Penske Racing announced its decision earlier today. "We plan to compete in all Indy Racing League series races in 2002, in addition to the Indy 500. It was a decision made by our principal sponsor (Marlboro) based on our collective business interests and objectives for 2002," Penske Racing, inc., President Tim Cindric said in a prepared news release.

Details about Team Marlboro's chassis and engine combination will be released at a future date. Penske Racing is the most successful Indy car racing team in history with 110 race wins, highlighted by a record 11 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race victories, 11 National Championships and 135 pole positions.
