Wintry weather did not deter hundreds of area race fans from lining the steps outside Kentucky Speedway's main ticket office and Fan Center in Sparta, Ky., to be first to purchase single event tickets for the 2002 race season.

Tickets for all events, including the NASCAR Busch Series 300-mile race to be held June 15, went on sale at 9:00 a.m. at speedway's administrative offices at 2216 Dixie Hwy., Suite 200, in the Expressway Plaza. Thousands more ordered tickets by phone and through the Internet at www.kentuckyspeedway.com and Tickets.com.

Fans were able to take advantage of discount offers such as the Coca-Cola Four Pack - which includes tickets to each weekend's feature race for one low price - and new discount offers for each weekend.

2001 IRL Champion Sam Hornish, Jr., and two-time ARCA RE/MAX Series Champion Frank Kimmel, who won two events at Kentucky Speedway in 2001, also were on hand to greet fans, sign autographs and help sell tickets in person and on the phone.

"It's great to see dedicated race fans turn out despite the snowy weather," Kimmel said. "Kentucky Speedway has some of the best, most loyal fans in racing." The turnout also impressed speedway Director of Ticketing Mike Travis. "Our new season is off to a great start," he said. "Our new packages have been well received and our expanded vendor network is making it more convenient for fans to purchase tickets over Internet, in person, by phone and by mail."
