| What is XML?
XML stand for eXtensible Markup Language. A markup language is a mechanism to identify structures in a document. The XML specification defines a standard way to add markup to documents. What is RSS? RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is a format for syndicating news and the content of news sites with XML. An RSS Feed (commonly referred to as a News Feed) is a file accessible over the internet that provides the user with up-to-date news published on the website. What does this mean to me? Many major websites allow you to customize your homepage. Yahoo! and Google are two examples. With these sites, you can get specific content of your choosing to appear on your homepage. Now that Kentucky Speedway has an RSS Feed, you can get Kentucky Speedway headlines to appear on your personalized homepage through Yahoo!, Google or any other homepage that supports RSS. How do I add the Kentucky Speedway RSS Feed to my Yahoo! homepage? If you have a personalized Yahoo! homepage, go to my.yahoo.com and log in. If you do not have a personalized Yahoo! homepage, go to http://my.yahoo.com and sign up. Once you are signed in to your personal Yahoo! homepage at http://my.yahoo.com, click the "Add Content" link. Yahoo! will then direct you to some of the most commonly used feeds. Next to the "Find" button, there is a link that says "Add RSS by URL." Click this link. Next type http://www.kentuckyspeedway.com/xml/KYS_Newsline.xml into the URL box and click the Add button. You will be taken to a page that shows you the feed. Click the yellow button at the top that says "Add To My Yahoo!" Now go back to http://my.yahoo.com. Your Yahoo! homepage will now be automatically receiving headlines updating from kentuckyspeedway.com. How do I add the Kentucky Speedway RSS Feed to my Google homepage? If you have a personalized Google homepage, go to Google's website and log in. If you do not have a personalized Google homepage, go to http://www.google.com and sign up. Once you are signed in to your personal Google homepage, click the "Add Content" link. A side menu will open. In the side window, you can "Search by topic of feed URL." Enter http://www.kentuckyspeedway.com/xml/KYS_Newsline.xml into the box and click the "Go" button. Your Google homepage will now be automatically receiving headlines updating from kentuckyspeedway.com. |
